Rail travel is set to become dearer in the new year as Indian Railways announces fare hike by upto 4 paise per kilometre across its network, excluding suburban trains, effective from January 1, 2020.
The fares for ordinary non-AC classes has been decided to hike by 1 paisa/km while for mail/Express Non-AC classes the fare will go up by 2 paise/km. For AC classes, there will be a increase of 4 paisa/km.
However, the suburban fares remain untouched and the passengers left out of the hike. Those passengers already booked tickets for travel before the effective date of the revised fare, need not to pay more during the journey.
The fare hike is also applicable to long-distance passenger trains, including Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, Vande Bharat, Tejas, Humsafar and Garib Rath.
Now because of the hike, the fare of the Delhi-Kolkata Rajdhani express will be increased by Rs 58 effective today.
