Emirates on Monday has opened its first remote check-in terminal in Dubai, outside of the airport. Now this check-in counters will provide seamless connections for cruise passengers. Eight new counters at Port Rashid will allow passengers who are disembarking from cruise ships to check in immediately for their onward Emirates flight free of charges.
With this complimentary flight check-in facilities located at the same location, customers will have the convenience to explore Dubai without their luggage before heading directly to the airport for their flight. Emirates also offers a Home Delivery service where luggage is retrieved, cleared at customs and delivered to the customers for a hassle free travel experience.
The company said in a statement that the new service will further boost Dubai’s position as a premier international cruise destination and provides greater convenience for customers.
Dubai has the largest dedicated port service in the Middle East for cruise operation. The facility enables Dubai to handle complete passenger turnaround of six cruise ships at the same time. An additional cruise terminal at Dubai Harbour is set to open in 2020. Located at the intersection of Palm Jumeirah and Bluewaters, the waterfront destination will offer more options for cruise passengers in Dubai.
As said by Mohammed Mattar,the Divisional Senior Vice President of Emirates Airport Services ” Our first remote check-in facility at Port Rashid will allow cruise passengers with onward flights the freedom to explore Dubai during their short transit having dropped their luggage and completed check-in formalities.”
The service will be open all through the sailing season in Dubai, which usually runs from October to April. Over the next six months, 198 cruises are likely to dock at Port Rashid. About 280,000 of passengers aboard those ships will have onward Emirates flights.
