Indian Railways is in process of continuous adaptations and modifications. This time the national transporter has come up with a major step of introducing bar codes on its food packets in order to enhance the food quality and the catering service at the same time. With this favorable move, passengers do not have to worry for a healthy and hygienic meal while on a ride, rather they can enjoy quality food now with a smooth journey.
A short while ago, inaugurating the Rail Drishti Dashboard to promote transparency and accountability, the Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has briefed about the development. He said that the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) will solely be responsible for the initiative. The Railway Ministry has thought of such plan so that passengers can keep a check on the quality of food items that are served to them.
With new bar codes on food packets, passengers can easily scan the code and watch the live footage of the inside view of the IRCTC pantry cars. Further they can also get the manufacturing and packaging date-time of the prepared food packets. CCTV cameras have been installed in various IRCTC base kitchens so that the railway users can see live videos of the food that is being prepared, packed and served to them in the train that they have boarded. The system is called ‘artificial intelligence module’ which has been has developed by IRCTC, in association with Delhi-based Wobot.
Ahmedabad, Balasore, Renigunta, Sealdah, Kota, Mumbai BCT, Mumbai CSMT, Guntakal, Jhansi, Katihar, Katpadi, Noida, Pune, Vijayawada railway stations are the ones which have received this new approach at present.
Now we can say that Piyush Goyal led Indian Raiways is progressing towards the approach of complete transparency, as the Railway Minister has recently inaugurated Rail Drishti Dashboard – an online portal where general people or railway users can access information regarding passenger trains, freight trains, stream live videos of IRCTC kitchens, get rail time table, railway heritage details etc. with their own conveniences.
Along with all such facilities, to keep up a clean environment IRCTC is also adopting the use of bio-degradable packaging materials for food as well.
