Uber Eats has unveiled a new look for its drone delivery service ahead of official test runs in 2020. On Monday, the company revealed the design onstage at Forbes Under 30 summit in Detroit which it plans to start testing in San Diego next summer.
The drone uses six rotors that change position for vertical takeoffs and landings and can carry meals for up two people.The new drone can make up to three six-mile legs for an 18-mile trip. The company’s plan is to deliver meals from restaurants to a staging location where an Uber driver would travel the last mile for the hand-off to the customer.
Though Uber refused to make publicl the hexa-copter’s designer, Uber Elevate head Eric Allison told conference-goers the UAV is vertical and horizontal flight-capable.
