Mumbai likely to get its first marina soon

Mumbai is most likely to get its first marina soon– at Princess Dock. The Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority ( MCZMA ) has recommended building one as part of the port makeover plan.

The Maharashtra Maritime Board had previously planned a marina between the Gateway of India and Western Naval Command, and later one between Apollo Bunder and the Gateway of India. The two plans were shelved following objections from the navy on security grounds.

Mumbai Port Port Trust (MbPT) chairperson Sanjay Bhatia told media on Tuesday “this is a 300-yacht marina we have planned. It’s a public-private partnership project. All major cities with coastlines have big marinas. They add to the tourism potential of the place. The total project cost is about Rs 380 crore. We will call for tenders in a month’s time.”

The proposal has been cleared by the MCZMA at a meeting on 10th of October. The minutes of the meeting were disclosed on 29th October.

The location of the marina will be between the domestic cruise terminal and RoRo Pax terminal. The total area of the marina will be 8.02 hectares that includes the basin, spanning 5.20 hectares. It will also have a walkway and a yacht repair and maintenance unit.
