Another award, another moment of pride for Indians : PM Modi to be honoured for ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
Once again Prime Minister Narendra Modi made India proud when he has been conferred with another award. This time for his Clean India Mission to be awarded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is owned by billionaire philanthropist and Microsoft founder Bill Gates and his wife Melinda Gates.
Making a announcement, MoS to PMO, Jitendra Singh said “Another award, another moment of pride for every Indian as PM Modi’s diligent and innovative initiatives bring glory from across the world. PM Modi to receive award from Bill Melinda Gates Foundation for Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan during his visit to US”.
Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the clean India initiative was one of the first few ambitious projects that PM Modi launched in his first term at the Centre in 2014. The project was launched on October 2, 2014 as an ode to Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary.
The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan aimed to make India ‘Open Defecation Free’ by 2019 and it had set off with a 5-year target to build 9 crore toilets.
Previously Bill Gates praised PM Modi for the mega health scheme of his government, the Ayushman Bharat scheme that aims to provide free healthcare to over 10 crore people.
PM is expected to receive the award on 25th September during his visit to New York, to attend the annual session of the United States General Assembly.
