Air India, All Set To Ban Single-Use Plastic Products On Its Flights From 2nd October

Air India, the national carrier is all set to impose a ban on use of plastic products like plastic  bags, cups, small bottles  and straws on all its flights from October 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

“From October 2, we are going to completely ban the use of plastics in Air India and the low-cost subsidiary Air India Express,” said its Chief Ashwani Lohani on Thursday.

Air India will use environmental friendly birch wood cutlery in place of plastic cutlery for special meals while crew meal cutlery will be replaced with light-weight steel cutlery.

Teacups, plastic tumblers  will be replaced with paper versions.

The national carrier will replace the handy snacks items like chips and sandwiches are, that presently come packed in plastic pouch to butter paper pouch.The carrier also replace cake slices with muffins so that usage of plastic wrapping can be avoided.

PM Modi during his Independence Day speech on August 15, had urged people and government agencies to make India free from single- use plastic.He also advised people to take a big step on 2nd October to make India free from single-use plastic.

He also requested start-up organizations, technicians and entrepreneurs to see what we can do to recycle this plastic.
