Goa put on a terror alert post Christchurch mosque attack

In the context of the Christchurch terror attack in New Zealand,alert had been issued by the Central Intelligence Agencies of a possible terror attack to several states and Union territories(in particular Delhi and Mumbai) which have jewish structures, sizable Jewish people or draw Israeli tourists,confirmed by Goa Inspector General of Police Jaspal Singh yesterday.

“IGP said that at Canacona Chabad House people visit on Saturday and Sunday for prayers.Last Sunday  there were around 12 visitors for prayer. Our guards are deployed and also it is under our constant vigil,” said Mr. Singh. “All our Superintendents of Police(SPs) have been briefed and alerted, Anti-Terror Squad has been put on alert and we have been constantly sharing inputs with various agencies as well as have alerted our intelligence networks.”

Sources in the intelligence agencies said theis tip off was about a possible attack on Israeli tourists in Goa. The tip-off indicated that the act was to be revenge plan by Islamic State terrorists or Al Qaeda for terror attack at Mosque in Christchurch in New Zealand that claimed about 50 people.

“As per the alert from central intelligence agencies, we have to keep a look out and secure areas frequented by Israeli tourists as well as a prayer house they have in North Goa. The threat according to the inputs, comes from a possible attack by Islamic State or Al Qaeda to avenge for the New Zealand mosque killings,”as said by a senior police official.

Goa attracts thousands of Israeli tourists round the year.
