At least nine people killed including a mother and child on wee hours of today as massive fire broke out at Hotel Arpit Palace in Karol Bagh in the national capital of Delhi. As per sources, seven men, a woman and a child lost their lives in the blaze. There were sixty people in the hotel when the fire broke out. According to latest reports, 25 fire tenders have been rushed to the spot right away.25 people have been rescued from the burning hotel, whereas 8 people are said to be in critical condition.
GC Mishra, Delhi Fire services director told that the department received a call about the blaze at about 4:30 am.
He said the fire started from the fourth floor of the hotel and spread till the second floor, while the ground floor and basement remained unaffected.
Thick smoke and huge flames could be seen originated from the top floor of the 40-room hotel till around 7 am.
The fire has already been extinguished, he said, and a cooling operation has been launched. At the same time, a search operation has also been launched to confirm there are no more people trapped in the hotel,he added.
Sunil Choudhary, the Deputy Chief Fire Officer said “Fire has been doused. Bodies are being taken out now. Rescue operation underway,”
The cause of the fire is still unidentified, but early probe suggests short circuit to be the cause of the blaze.
while several cases of fire in the National Capital reported earlier ,but Karol Bagh hotel tragedy has claimed most lives in recent past. In 1986 a major fire mishap in Siddharth Hotel in Vasant Vihar had killed 37 and injured 39 people. Later, it was renamed as the Vasant Continental. Owned by Jaypee Group, the hotel was a 10-storey luxury hotel in the 1980. Some foreigners were also killed in the fire.
