Early morning on Tuesday, a fire flared up at Taj Exotica Resort & Spa, Maldives, destroying four of the 64 villas at the Hotel. Fortunately, no guests or staffs were hurt, even if the villas were occupied – as confirmed by the hotel office. As stated in an official statement of the Taj Hotels, “About the unfortunate fire incident that occurred at Taj Exotica Resort & Spa, we would like to convey it to all that we are cooperating with the authorities and the management to investigate the incident. In a prompt action all our guests and staffs were shifted to a safe location following the incident and there are no casualties. The incident has not been interrupted the resort’s operation and is continuing as usual”.

With 64 picture-perfect ocean-view villas and suites, the Taj’s luxury resort in Maldives is spread across one of the largest coral-rich lagoons, the Emboodhu Finolhu Island. It is one of the best 5 star resorts in Maldives.

According to The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), who fighted the fire at the spot, the blaze started in one of the villas and the resort reported about it at 4:48am on Tuesday. After 90 minutes of rescue operation the fire was brought under control.

This is the second fire at a Maldives resort in less than a month. The first one happened on the night of 2 January during the New Year celebration. In this incident, a massive fire destroyed seven overwater villas at Gili Lankanfushi Resort. Inspite of being fully booked, because of the occasion, no one of the guests or staff were hurt.

After the current incident, the resort is under repair and renovation and will likely be opened in two months.
