Coral Princess docks in Miami with 2 dead and others sick of novel coronavirus

The Princess Cruises’ Coral Princess has finally docked Saturday at Florida’s PortMiami  with two guests dead and several others sick from Covid-19, after denied permission at ports in many countries to disembark its passengers  though no one aboard had in fact tested positive for Covid-19  until this week, officials said.

The medical staff on the ship noticed that a higher-than-usual number of ship’s occupants coming down with flu-like over a week ago and from 30th March onwards guests were asked to stay in their rooms.

Began the journey March 5 in Chile the voyage ended saturday  but it was supposed to finish March 19 in Argentina.

Though it is still unclear how soon all of the 1,000-plus passengers and 878 crew will disembark in Miami, but some of the most seriously ill will leave and go to hospitals  first, as said by Miami Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez on Saturday.

As confirmed by Princess Cruises on Thursday 12 people aboard which includes  seven guests and five crew were positive for Covid-19, after a small group of people with respiratory illness were tested Tuesday.On Saturday the company announced that two guests had died of coronavirus.

Gimenez also explained that about fifteen other coronavirus-positive passengers who don’t need immediate hospitalization will remain aboard for medical treatment  until they are cleared the U.S. Centers of Disease Control and Prevention to travel.

Reportedly, those guests deemed fit to fly home will begin disembarking the ship on Sunday though the process is expected to take several days, due to limited flight availability. Gimenez said over 990 passengers and 840 crew members have thus far been deemed fit for travel.
