In a bid to help the restaurant industry and its workers overcome the impact of the nationwide lockdown due to COVID-19 epidemic, food tech major Zomato has announced on Thursday that it is launching a gold support fund.
As a token of gratitude, all users who purchase the Gold annual subscription during the month of April will get a two-year membership instead of one year at no additional cost, Zomato added. The foodtech unicorn stated that Zomato Gold membership will be available at Rs 1,200 limited to April only. It can be purchased or renewed from the Zomato app and website.
Further it announced that all proceeds from the purchase of its gold annual memberships in April will go to restaurant workers that includes housekeepers, cooks and servers via its ‘Gold Support Fund’.
Gaurav Gupta, Co-founder and COO, Zomato said It is disheartening to see the industry which has grown to drive tremendous employment opportunities in recent years, struggling to sustain. Zomato is starting this initiative in india and the uae and hope to support as many restaurants as possible.
In order to serve its consumers during the ongoing nationwide lockdown, the Gurugram-based startup has also forayed into the grocery delivery segment under ‘Zomato Market’. This service will provide doorstep delivery of groceries across Delhi, Punjab, and Kerala.
It’s worth mentioninh that Zomato’s rival Swiggy had already been offering groceries through ‘Swiggy Stores’ for over a year.
