As India entered day 3 of its 21-day nationwide complete lockdown imposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a bid to tackle coronavirus, the Covid-19 threat continues to extend its footprint in India with positive cases keep on rising.It has already crossed the 700-mark in the country, with maximum number of cases being reported on Thursday.
As of today COVID-19 has infected 531,800 worldwide and has claimed 24,071 lives, while in India, 722 cases have emerged with the death toll rising to 16.
The central government on Thursday unveiled the first instalment of a fiscal relief package, worth Rs 1.7 trillion , to protect the weaker sections of the society from the economic fallout of Covid-19 in the country. Announcing the measures to ensure “no one will go hungry”, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the PM Garib Kalyan Yojana will benefit migrant workers, rural poor and women.
