On Sunday morning, a gunman walked inside a crowded North Texas church and opened fire killing two people before being fatally shot at the sight by two armed parishioners including a security guard, authorities said.
The incident occurred at 10:57 a.m. at the West Freeway Church of Christ in the Fort Worth suburb of White Settlement, officials said. Emergency services were dispatched right away to the Church of Christ soon received a call about a shooting and gunshot wounds.
As witness said, the gunman was wearing a fake beard and sunglasses and had taken communion before launching the attack. He managed to shoot two persons at point-black range as the panicked crowd dives for cover among the wooden pews. Before he attempted for a third shot, the heroic parishioner shot him at the scene .
The motive behind the attack was not yet confirmed and name of the shooter was not immediately released.
Jeff Williams, the director of public safety said, two security volunteers saved the life of 242 other parishioners who were in the church.
Church security has become a big concern in the state after a gunman walked into a church in Sutherland Springs two years ago and fatally shot 26 people and wounded 20 others.
Mike Tinius, a church elder said, one of those killed was a security guard and friend who responded to the shooter.
