Strong earthquake tremors were felt in Delhi-NCR and several parts of north India on Friday evening.
According to the National Center for Seismology, the 6.3 magnitude tremor was felt at 5.12 pm with its epicentre Hindu Kush region,246 km northeast of Kabul, Afghanistan.
The earthquake is estimated to have occurred at the depth of 190 km.
The tremors were also felt in Pakistan’s Islamabad and Lahore and most parts of north India. There were reports of people rushed out of their buildings from several parts of the country. Tremors were felt for several seconds in various parts of Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh at 5.13 p.m.,as said by an official of the meteorological office in Chandigarh.
There are no immediate reports of any casualties or loss of property in India due to the quake.
According to the Paris-based European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre, the said the magnitude of the earthquake was 5.9 on the Richter scale and tremors were felt from Tashkent to New Delhi, a distance of nearly 1,500 km. Later it updated the magnitude to 6.1.
