A magnitude 4.3 earthquake was felt in Monterey and San Luis Obispo counties on Tuesday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. It was felt as far away as Visalia and Tulare.
The quake struck about at 10:29 a.m. and was centered near the seismic hot spot of Parkfield, at Monterey County’s southeast tip, the USGS said.
Weak to light shaking was reported in these region though no injuries or damages have been reported.
Almost 500 people registered their experience by midday at the USGS “Did You Feel It?” webpage, more than half of them in Paso Robles or Atascadero, 25 to 30 miles from the epicenter. Many of them described the shaking as 3 on a scale of 10. USGS website indicates that the tremor was felt as far away as San Francisco and Los Angeles.
It was the biggest quake in California since a 4.7 magnitude quake felt in San Benito County on 15th October.
Principal of Shandon High School Kristina Benson, said that staff and students of the school felt the quake, which was described to Benson as “loud” and “shaking.”
