South Africa’s Zozibini Tunzi,26, declared winner of the Miss Universe 2019 on December 8, 2019 on Sunday held in Atlanta, the capital of the state of Georgia in USA. The world’s biggest beauty pageant was hosted by American comic-turned-TV personality Steve Harvey who had infamously declared the wrong contestant as the Miss Universe winner in 2015.
Zozibini Tunzi had to beat 90 contestants from across the globe to win the coveted title and becme the third Miss Universe winner from South Africa.
Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray crowned new Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi at the event. India’s Miss Universe 2019 representative Vartika Singh bowed out of the Miss Universe 2019 competition after securing a place in the Miss Universe 2019 top 20, but could not make it to the top 10.
Zozibini and Miss Universe Puerto Rico Madison Anderson were the top two contestants for the Miss Universe title. Miss Universe Mexico Ashley Alvidrez is the second-runner up. Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray crowned Zozibini Tunzi at the event held in Atlanta on Sunday night.
26-year-old Zozibini Tunzi from Tsolo, South Africa is quite active and a dynamic campaigner in fight against gender based violence and stereotypes.She is also a proud advocate of natural beauty and encourages women to appreciate themselves in the way they are.
The final question that won Miss Universe South Africa the crown was: “What is the most important thing you should be teaching young girls today?” and Zozibini Tunzi brilliantly answered: “I think the most important thing we should be teaching young girls today is leadership. It’s something that has been lacking in young girls and women for a very long time, not because we don’t want to but because of what society has labelled women to be. I think we are the most powerful beings in the world and that we should be given every opportunity and that is what we should be teaching these young girls, to take up space, nothing is as important as taking up space in society and cementing yourself, thank you.”
