Siachen galcier, World’s Highest Battlefield, Now Opens for Tourists

Just a month after Ladakh became a UT, India now announced to open the Siachen glacier, the world’s highest battlefield for tourists.

India’s Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh announced the opening of Siachen glacier for tourists on Monday in Ladakh while inaugurating the strategically important Col Chewang Rinchin bridge across the Shyok River in eastern Ladakh. Rajanath Singh further stressed on Ladakh’s potential as an important tourist destination in India.

Taking to his twitter account Union minister Rajnath Singh said “Ladakh has tremendous potential in Tourism. Better connectivity in Ladakh would certainly bring tourists in large numbers. “The Siachen area is now open for tourists and Tourism. From Siachen Base Camp to Kumar Post, the entire area has been opened for Tourism purposes,he added.

The bridge site, at an altitude of 14,650 feet, is about 45 km away from the China border.

Siachen glacier is situated in the eastern Karakoram Range in the Himalayas at an average altitude of 18,000 ft above sea level.It is one of the five largest glaciers in the Karakoram. At 78 km long, it is the longest glacier in the Karakoram and second longest in the world outside the polar areas.

Opening the glacier for tourists means it will open the door of opportunity for all sorts of adventure tourism, skiing resorts, and more. Not only tourists from India ,but from acroos the world would prefer to visit this place for sure.
