Tejas Express: Railways to pay compensation for arrival delay

For the first time, Indian Railways, the country’s biggest public sector will pay a compensation of Rs 250 to each passengers onboard Lucknow-New Delhi Tejas Express for an arrival delay of over two hours on Saturday.

On Saturday, Tejas Express, India’s first private train left late on both sides. During journey, there were 451 passengers in this train coming from Lucknow to Delhi and 500 passengers in the train going from Delhi to Lucknow.

Tejas express was scheduled to depart at 6.10 am from Lucknow station,but the train started at around 8.55 am and reached New Delhi railway station around 3.40 pm instead of 12.25 pm. Consequently, the train departed from New Delhi at around 5.30 pm instead of 3.35 pm and reached Lucknow at 11.30 pm though it was supposed to arrive at 10:05 pm.

Now all these passengers will get Rs 250 as compensation due to being late. According to the chief regional manager (CRM), IRCTC, Lucknow, Ashwini Srivastava said, “We have sent the link to each of the passengers mobile clicking on which they can claim compensation. Those who do will get compensation.”

Besides the compensation ,to make up for the delay, passengers were served extra tea,  lunch and the refreshment packets with ‘Sorry For Delay’ printed on them.

As per railways guideline, passengers will get partial refund in case the train is late on arrival to its destination. If the train delays for over an hour, then passengers will be given a refund of Rs 100 and a refund of Rs 250 if they are late for more than two hours.

According to IRCTC, passengers of Delhi-Lucknow Tejas Express will get free rail travel insurance of Rs 25 lakh. Passengers will also be given travel insurance of Rs 1 lakh for theft or robbery during the journey.

An official said that the train will run on time on Sunday.
