The occasion for Year end celebrations is coming closer, just two months away from now. Considering the fact that the coastal belt to witnesses heavy traffic during the upcoming fest, the traffic cell of Colva police has written to the department of tourism to make available land in their possession to facilitate better parking arrangements for the vehicles.
According to Colva traffic cell in-charge Devu Mangaonkar, the football ground near Colva beach which was being used for parking throughout the year, now has been surrounded by a compound wall while the remaining open space has been fenced, rendering it unavailable for parking any more.
Addressing
a letter to the director of tourism, Mangaonkar stated that though the police
have identified
a parking place behind the panchayat ghar, “the
place is not adequate to accommodate the increasing vehicular traffic converging
at Colva beach”.
“It is also noticed that private tourist buses are
parked at the parking space of the tourism department near the taxi stand causing
inconvenience for visiting Colva beach,” the letter stated.
.Mentioning the large area of land owned by the tourism department near the fishing jetty at Colva, the traffic police have pointed out to the overgrowth of vegetation which, if cleared, could be utilised for parking two and four-wheelers.
During Christmas and New Year, Colva and Benaulim beaches witness heavy vehicular traffic every year, even though a large number of traffic police have been deployed to regulate traffic.
