Over 200 people have been rescued by the BRO (Border Roads Organization), police, Rohtang rescue teams and district administration from the snow-hit area on the Manali-Leh road in the Rohtang region in Himachal Pradesh on Monday.
According to media sources, more than 150 vehicles including many army vehicles have been stranded at Rohtang Pass due to the early-hit snow.
The higher reaches of Lahaul-Spiti and Kullu districts have received heavy snowfall.IMD also predicted light rainfall during 24 hours.
The situation was reviewed by the Station House officer of Manali. The security personnel were helped by the well-equipped team of volunteers – ‘Raptor’. They paved the way for vehicles by shovelling snow from the tracks. The administration also asked people not to cross Rohtang Pass to avoid any kind of mishappening.
While briefing media about the situation, the Sub Divisional Magistrate of Manali, Raman Garsanghi said Rohtang pass has received six inches of snow on Monday and as a result some Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) buses are stuck in it. He further advised people not to move to Lahaul Spiti and Ladakh till the situation attains normalcy there.He said all passengers have been evacuated and traffic has been regulated so as not to create any chaos at the Rohtang top.
