The Indian national flag and the image of Mahatma Gandhi were displayed on ‘Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest tower in Dubai on Wednesday evening to mark the 150th anniversary of ‘Father of the Nation’ Mahatma Gandhi. Huge celebrations took place to honour the occasion around the globe.
While the first display took place at 7.50pm, the another one is scheduled for 8.50pm, according to the Indian consulate in Dubai.
Gandhiji popularly known as Bapu, led the subcontinent to independence from Britain in 1947.
His non-violent, passive resistance movement inspired civil rights groups fighting discrimination worldwide.
The Consulate General of India rolled out a slew of events involving members of the local community, and government departments, including Dubai Sports Council and Dubai Municipality.
Apart from the 4-km peace walk, activities included painting and debate competitions, and a workshop for kids to assemble solar lamps. The celebrations will continue till January 2020 in the UAE.
