The Ajman Tourism Development Department (ATDD) has come up with a pledge to ban plastic products, to keep pace with the government’s related endeavours, raise community awareness, and lessen the impact of plastics on the surroundings.
Ajman is the capital of the emirate of Ajman, one of the seven emirates (states) of the United Arab Emirates, located along the Persian Gulf.
,Director-General of ATDD Saleh Mohamed Al Geziry said that the sustainability of the tourism sector is being prioritised by the Ajman Government, as a key pillar of the Ajman Vision 2021 and UAE Vision 2021 which highlight the value of a happy society that contributes to the establishment of a green economy.
ATDD has wielded significant efforts, in collaboration with its public and private sector partners, to promote correct environmental practices.The department has also launched the Ajman Sustainable Tourism Award, “Mudama,” to encourage its partners to rationalise their water and energy spending and take up eco-friendly practices.
ATDD has also banned the use of plastic utensils in its departments and divisions contributing its effort towards the Ministry of Climate Change and the Environment’s drive to encourage responsible consumption for a sustainable future, which was launched on the occasion of Earth Day.
ATDD is also going to replace the plastic products that were used in ATDD’s offices with other biodegradable materials in the interests of protecting and conserving the environment. The department will also keep on working with its tourism and hotel partners to promote sustainable environmental practices.
