Aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has summoned low-cost private airline, Spicejet to check whether there have been any violations for an alleged mid-air New Year celebration. The regulator has rapped the airline for violating safety rules and sought an explanation on the occurrence.
The incident happened on December 31 when the flight from Amritsar to Goa SG 282 was “cruising” at 35,000 feet.
A video which was uploaded by passengers now making rounds on social media, shows passengers dancing onboard while the crew wearing colourful wigs and carrying pompoms. After it came to the notice of DGCA,it has now sought explanation from the company.
Violation of rules
As per rules, this type of celebration during the flight in the airplane is a disobedience of the rules. However SpiceJet has clarified that no rules have been violated during the Carrier.
Video Edited
As said by SpiceJet, the airline has not violated any protocol and its crew did not join in dancing.It further clarified that the video was shot by a passenger and not by the crew. Also the video was edited and the music has been added later on.
A said by a senior DGCA Official “Use of cell phones to take pictures mid-air is also a violation of safety rules.” Now, the regulator has ordered a probe to probe whether the crew members also joined the celebration and if it was an incident in only one aircraft.
It is to be noted that this type of odd instances of mid-air bash inside an aircraft has not taken place for the first time. In earlier period also DGCA has raised objections on Spicejet for holding a 10-minute dance show inside an aircraft in 2014. Also,the regulator had rapped SpiceJet after Sonu Nigam performed mid-air in 2016.
