Macau allows casinos to reopen from February 20 after coronavirus ban lifted

Macau, an autonomous region on the south coast of China and  the world’s biggest gambling hub, will allow casinos to resume operations from February 20, after authorities imposed a two-week suspension to curb the coronavirus’ spread, authorities said on Monday.

According to the health officials statement, the government has told casino operators they have 30 days to return to full business. Macau casinos are extremely famous across the globe.

 The unprecedented halt of gaming operations, probably the longest shutdown of casinos ever for the planet’s largest gambling centre has started on February 5 and was due to end on February 19. The city has not reported any new cases of the virus since February 4, officials said. This is the reason for re-opening of the casinos in the city.In total they  have  10 confirmed cases of the virus there in the city.

Government services, which had mostly been kept on suspension since  beginning of February, have slowly resumed operations this week but authorities cautioned that residents needed to remain vigilant.

This step of lifting ban can help boost the country’s economy which has almost shattered because of the life-threatening virus.American credit rating agency reveals that the virus crisis in China could wipe out $3.3 billion in cash flow for the six Macau operators.

Number of resorts those running casinos on site that includes Wynn Resorts Ltd. and Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd. said that they will start off on 20th February.

Sands China President Wilfred Wong said, it might take another two to three months for the casino business to flourish or even return to regular business.

While MGM accepted a loss of $1.5 million per day in Macau, Wynn Resorts loss is  lost about $2.5 million a day.
