Australia Bushfires: Sydney Opera House Illuminates With Images Of Heroic Firefighters To Honour Their Bravery

In a gesture of gratitude towards the emergency services, volunteers and firefighters who have been battling the worst ongoing bushfire across Australia, the sails of the famous Sydney Opera House were illuminated with images on Saturday evening for several hours in their support.

The projections began at 8.30pm and were a tribute to those who have suffered through the present crisis. In one of the images displayed, a woman hugging a volunteer firefighter, while  another image showed the sign ‘Thank You firies’.

With this worst fire season Australia is experiencing currently, at least 27 people including volunteer firefighters have been killed since the bushfire season began back in October and still there are fears those numbers may go up as the season could last until March. Thousands also forced to evacuate. Fires have scorched through more than 10.3 million hectares of land, an area equivalent to the size of South Korea.

The Sydney Opera House also declared to co-host a comedy gala fundraiser during March to help communities affected by the bushfires.
