Apparently a pyrotechnics explosion shaken the Festa Del Pi(Pine Tree) celebration in the Catalonian city of Centelles in Spain, sparking chaos and wounding several festival attendees.
At least fourteen people were injured and three of them seriously wounded, as reported by the local authorities. Those suffered major injuries are being taken to the Vall d’Hebron hospital to be treated for their burn.
Four fire engines, 12 ambulances and two emergency services helicopters have been attended the incident to treat the injured at the scene.
As confirmed by the local fire department, there was no major damage to the church bell tower. However, the local council confirmed that the remainder of the festival will be closed to the public as a safety measure. But the arrival of the pine tree to the church will be taken place in silence as a mark of respect,but will be conducted behind closed doors.
In the mean time, the Catalonian police and the Spanish bomb disposal team TEDAX have been deployed to the scene to investigate.
The Festa del Pi is an annual traditional festival celebrated on or around the winter solstice and involves the ceremonial hunt for a particular type of pine tree which is then burnt to honour the patron saint of the village.
