Over 6,000 trees to be cut for Jewar Airport, touted as India’s largest with 6 runways

The Jewar Airport in Greater Noida, also to be recognised  as the Noida International Greenfield Airport  will be India’s largest after completion. The airport with proposed six runways will be similar to the world’s largest airports, according to Arun Vir Singh, CEO, Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA). This new airport is expected to provide the National Capital Region with a second facility after Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, which is at present the biggest in the country with three runways.

when fully constructed, Jewar airport will be among one of the three largest airports in the world, including O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, Daxing International Airport in Beijing, China, and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport in Texas, US. The O’Hare Airport with eight runways is spread in more than 7,200 acres while the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport and Daxing Airport has seven runways each.

The Airport  will come up in the 5,000-hectare area with a estimated cost of rs.29,560 crore. The first phase of the airport will be spread over 1,334 hectares and expected to be completed by 2023.

Forest department has given permission to cut down 6,800 trees for the Jewar Airport in Gautam Buddha Nagar, according to an official of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority. However, in return the authority will give Rs.1 crore 60 lakh to the forest department to plant 68,000 trees, said Mr.Singh.

Zurich Airport International AG, the Switzerland based company will develop the Noida International Airport at Jewar in Uttar Pradesh.
