The IRCTC run Lucknow-Delhi Tejas Express is the first such train in Indian railways, in which passengers get compensation when they are late, but the “compensation-for-delay” scheme may not apply if Tejas Express is late due to fog in winter. Here, the delay of the train can be termed as Act of God, though the final decision on this matter is yet to taken.
IRCTC Managing Director M P Mall told media that “Ideally delay due to fog should be termed ‘Act of God’ as is built into the insurance system. We will take a call on it. We may also increase the threshold for compensation from (delay of) one hour to two hours etc. We will need to think about it”.
When Tejas Express was delayed for the first time on 19th October reaching the destination three hours late, passengers were given a compensation of Rs 1.62 lakh for late arrival of the train.
As per IRCTC guidelines, compensation of Rs 100 is given to passengers for Tejas being late for one hour and more and Rs 250 for delays of two hours or above
