SriLankan Airlines, the flag carrier of Sri Lanka and the largest foreign carrier in to India, celebrated Diwali with all its loyal customers with a series of special events on Sunday October 27, 2019 at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) and on board many of its flights in the South Asian region.
SriLankan is better known for its good gesture going the extra mile to give its passengers completely a pleasant experience, winning the prestigious ‘Asia’s Leading Airline to the Indian Ocean’ title for the third consecutive year at the World Travel Awards Asia & Oceania; the global ‘Best Marketing Innovation’ award from the Airline Passenger Experience Association (APEX), and a coveted PATA Gold Award in the category ‘Marketing-Carrier’.
Diwali is the festival of lights, one of the most popular festivals of Hinduism. Diwali symbolises the spiritual “victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance”.
SriLankan’s Serendib Business Class lounge at BIA was vivaciously decorated for the occasion, with a traditional ‘kolam’ design at the entrance, jasmine strands, fairy lights, and Indian dishes that are traditionally served at Diwali for passengers to enjoy. Many of SriLankan’s counters at BIA also sported Diwali posters and the airline created awareness of its festive activities on social media.
Several SriLankan flights from cities in India were on the theme of Diwali, with cabin crew greeting passengers by placing a traditional colorful ‘pottu’ on their foreheads, mouthwatering Indian sweets being served as desserts and announcements with regard to the festival.
