Raising apprehension over the Malaysian Tug JIN HWA 32, a cargo vessel anchored near Rajhans in Chilika lake off Odisha coast since last Wednesday(August 7), Indian Coast Guard has asked the concerned company Gimhwak Enterprises SDN BHD to take measures to prevent oil pollution in the area on priority basis either through a local agent or any other professional salvor.
Non-compliance would lead to action under sections of the Indian Merchant Shipping Act, 1958.
As reported, the vessel contains 30,000 litres of diesel, 1000 litres of lube oil & 200 litres of hydraulic oil.The Coast Guard in a letter to the owner of vessel has been urged to take steps to prevent leakage as it is a threat to eco-sensitive Chilika & Odisha Coast.
The Indian Coast Guard has also marked the letter to the Odisha Chief Secretary.As per reports, the Malaysian cargo ship, carrying cargo from Malaysia unloaded its shipment in Bangladesh and was en route to Visakhapatnam port to pick up new cargo, reportedly developed a technical glitch after being caught in a storm in the Bay of Bengal and washed ashore near Rajhans in Chilika lake.
