Tourists to avail Cruise, Boat House facilities in Chilika soon

Asia’s biggest brackish water lagoon Chilika Lake will soon to offer cruise and boat house lodging facilities to tourists. Likewise floating restaurants which beautifies  the backwaters of Kerala will also now be seen in chilika lake. The service would be hugely well-liked as it would offer the visitors to enjoy beauty of the lake in all its forms.

On thursday a master plan in this regard has been introduced by the Forest and Environment Department at the State Secretariat which was prepared by a consulting firm under Integrated Coastal Zone Management Project (ICZMP).According to sources, in the initial phase, 32 acres of land at Rambha and 80-90 acres at Satpada have been identified by the government where infrastructure for the project will be developed as per the master plan.

Consequently, tourism department will coordinate developing the project which has been given the task to collect funds and attract private investors for this mega project.

“In order to boost the tourism potential of Chilika, a blueprint has been prepared which will offer boating, cruise, floating restaurants and other facilities in the lake,” said Additional Chief Secretary of Forest & Environment of the state, Suresh Chandra Mohapatra.

Mohapatra also informed that the project work is expected to begin by next year.
