17 people including 12 Indians killed in Muscat-Dubai bus accident

17 people, including 12 Indians, were killed in a bus accident when a bus packed with Eid vacationers entered a restricted lane around 6pm on Thursday and rammed into a low-clearance height barrier in the United Arab Emirates city. The bus was coming from Oman’s capital Muscat and  heading for the Al Rashidiya metro station in Dubai .

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has confirmed in his twitter account. “Deeply grieved by the unfortunate bus accident in Dubai that has claimed 12 Indian lives. My sincere condolences to the families,” he tweeted.

The Indian Embassy in Dubai told that families of people killed in the accident have been contacted. Identifying other dead will also be given to his family soon.

The low-clearance signboard that hangs over a car-only off-ramp of the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, a major highway in Dubai, smashed through the left side of the bus and killed almost everyone seated on that side. Dubai Police said that some of the bodies remained unidentified and that the number of Indian casualties could rise.

The statement issued by the Indian Embassy said that the Consul General and other officers reached relatives in the hospitals with relatives of those who lost their lives in the accident. Also, every possible help is being given to the police for identifying the dead.

Among those who have been confirmed dead on the Indian embassy include Vimal Kumar Karthikeyan, Umar Mammad Puthen, Nabil Umer Katwath, Vasudev Vishadas, Rajan Gopalan, Jamaluddin Jamaluddin, Prubula Madhavan Deepa Kumar, Roshni Mulchandani, Kiran Johnny, Firoz Khan Pathan, Reshma Feroz Khan Pathan, Vikram Jawahar Thakur are included.
