Air traveler’s rights have been specified now in India as the Union Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu released an air passenger charter indicating the role of the airline in case of delay and cancellation, on Wednesday, February 27th.
According to the charter, if a domestic flight is going to be delayed by more than six hours, the airline will be subjected to provide an option of “alternate flight” to the passenger within that time, or it will return the full price of the ticket.
The charter also said that passengers should be briefed by the airline about any case of flight cancellation before fifteen days of its scheduled departure. If not, the airline must offer an alternate flight to passenger or refund the ticket completely.
Additionally, it made the thing very clear that the amount of refund money that will be given to passenger in case of cancellation, should be mentioned by the airline distinctly, at the very time of booking.
However, due to over booking of a flight, if any passenger is unable to board, cannot claim any compensation if he or she is given an alternate flight within one hour of original flight’s departure.
