Period. End of Sentence, the short documentary film on the stigma surrounding women during menstruation in rural India wins an Oscar in the Documentary Short Subject category at the 91st Academy Awards are currently underway at Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.The big news is coming for Guneet Monga’s Period End Of Sentence, that emerged victorious beating other nominees like Black Sheep, End Game, Lifeboat and A Night At The Garden.
Produced by Indian Film Producer, Guneet Monga, the movie is set in India and revolves around the taboos around menstruation. It’s about Indian women’s struggles against the deeply rooted stigma of menstruation and focusses on the work of real-life ‘Pad Man’ Arunachalam Muruganathan. The 26-minute film follows girls and women in Hapur, India and their experience with the installation of a pad machine in their village. It’s definitely a huge honour for someone of Indian origin.
