With time and need new experiments and innovations do surface in the airline services to make the business more viable and user friendly. In recent years we have come across a bevy of airplane seat patents and concepts that range from interesting to downright terrifying. Here comes another one which for sure will go in favor of the airlines because these modern slimline airplane seats are lighter and thinner. This is an interesting concept known as the ‘Airbus Move seat’.
The innovative concept took shape by a London-based design firm – Layer, in the process of exploring how passenger comfort can be improved through smart textiles and helping airlines save weight and fuel, at the same time. Layer was designing these seats for Airbus and it took 18 months to be ready. The project is a part of an ongoing partnership between Layer and Airbus.
This has specially been designed for economy class travelers and with this passengers will feels like sitting on a thin yoga mat for three hours.
On the context, Layer’s founder, Benjamin Hubert said “We believe, at Layer, good design should be avail to all. Often, new concepts for flying are focused on modernizations of business class mostly. But while creating Airbus Move seat we were excited to be partnered with Airbus to find ways to enhance and add value to the economy class experience facilitating both the passenger and the airline.”
The Move smart seats by Airbus and Layer are highlighted with features like :
1. These are made by wrapping smart textile around an aluminum frame.
2. The smart textile is made of conductive yarn.
3. Further the conductive yarn is connected to a series of sensors and a smartphone app.
4. The firmness of the seat can be adjusted by sending electrical currents down through the conductive yarn.
5. The seat’s sensors also monitor temperature, tension, pressure, and movement.
6. The seats have got several controls including massage, mealtime, and sleep.
7. The seats have also equipped with smart storage pouches made of smart pressure sensitive fabric that can detect if you’ve left your phone or other personal items in it accidentally.
8. The seat also featured with a rotating tray table and an optional onboard entertainment system.
9. With the Move seats passengers may not get much space necessarily, but whatever space they get, will be more pleasant.
Presently, the seat remains a prototype.
