Himachal Pradesh government has issued a low danger avalanche warning for five state districts which includes avalanche prone areas of Chamba, Lahaul-Spiti, Shimla, Kinnaur and Kullu districts. The concerned departments and general public have been issued advisory for it by the Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (HPSDMA). Snow and & Avalanche Study Establishment (SASE), Manali had predicted the snowslide for yesterday and today in these districts.
According to one of the state government’s spokespersons, the district administration and District Disaster management Authorities (DDMAs) have been advised to be alert and monitor the situation in their areas regularly and take well- timed precautionary measures. Instructions have been delivered to keep search and rescue teams ready and restricting movements on slopes where avalanche warning has been issued.
The authorities have further been urged on to transmit bad weather warning to all grass-root functionaries and local residents, advising the tourists and local people not to venture in snow bound areas. Roads and National highways along with temporary unprotected settlements near the avalanche paths, are all under close watch.
To avoid any inconvenience, general public has been advised to keep adequate stock of essential commodities and emergency medicines.
As per the prediction of the Meteorological department, another western disturbance — storm system originating from Caspian Sea and moving across the Afghanistan-Pakistan region — are supposed to hit the western Himalayan region on January 8, carrying isolated to scattered precipitation.
