TMC MP O’Brien, who heads Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture said that the committee believes that private airline Indigo is the worst performing carrier for consumers where as for luggage policy, national carrier Air India is the best carrier.
Brien said the house panel had taken it seriously that some airlines do charges 8 to 10 times more than the normal charges.
Addressing a press conference to reveal the panels most up-to-date report Brien said Despite several complaints, Indigo did not respond. All the 30 members of the standing committee do agreed at a single point that Indigo is the worst performing carrier for passengers. Indigo has also even been charged for 1-2 kg of weight. The airline did not take complaints seriously. The committee is looking into this issue seriously.
He further added the committee is disgusted with the operating process of some airlines, but Indigo is most discourteous and rigid to its response.
The Committee has recommended that the cancellation fee should not exceed 50% of the basis fare. Taxes and fuel surcharg collected from the passengers should be refunded. The airlines are charging excessively.
On luggage policy Brien said Air India has the best luggage policy and other private airlines should enhance the baggage limit as baggage charges are also on higher side.
