Opened on February 18,1925 in Washington DC with 440 guestrooms The Mayflower Hotel is known as the “Grand Dame of Washington”.The hotel was planned to be named as Hotel Walker after the name of the owner Allen E Walker.The architects of this grand hotels were Warren and Waltimore. When Warren sold the hotel to C.C. Mitcell & Company it was renamed to The Mayflower Hotel in honor of the 300th anniversary of the Mayflower and the pilgrim of the Playmouth rock’s landing.
The hotel’s guest suites were provided with sitting room,dining room,bath and up to seven bathrooms.Some also had kitchens with fireplaces.The Hotel and its amenities is undisputedly the best in the U.S. Along with all sorts of comfort,the hotel also provides services like maids service,beauty salon,garage,telephone etc.
The hotel was owned by the Hilton Corporations after the Great Depression and World War II who operated it for the next 10 years.However, they had to sell it when the government filed an anti-trust action against the Hilton’s.The Mayflower have had a variety of owners since then and hosted a lot of presidential campaigns;the reason why it is called the President’s hotel,
