After steam traction stopped on Indian Railway track, it is for the first time a timetabled steam-hauled train has been started by Indian Railways.This exotic express will run throughout the year just at a normal fair of `10/- from Garhi Harsaru and Farukhnagar.
Train timings are indicated as :-
“Witness a journey like never before on the Steam Express from Garhi Harsaru to Farukhnagar at a minimal price of Rs. 10 only! Bookings are open for this unique journey.” IRCTC tweeted,
This will definitely boost tourism in the region as it will attract tourists and steam enthusiasts from all over the world to have a ride on steam engine hauled train.
Currently, the train is being hauled by a WP7200 AZAD, a broad gauge 1947, make steam locomotive. Worth mentioning that the steam engine has been restored to prime condition and its revival was being carried out at Heritage Steam Shed, Rewari and DEMU-Shed, Shakurbasti.The engine hit the tracks on Wednesday for hauling India’s oldest iconic luxury tourist train, the Palace on Wheels on a trip from Delhi Safdarjung station to Patel Nagar station. Railway board chairman, Ashwani Lohani flagged off the train on November 21.
The Railways team has managed to revive some heritage steam locos and take care of their regular maintenance and overhauling.
Railways also undertake running of heritage steam trips on popular tourist sections from time to time.
