As close neighbours, India and Nepal share a remarkable relationship of kinship and
participation portrayed by open borders, customary trades, regular high level visits. Here is another step of taking it forward by introducing
broad-gauge passenger railway service from the northeastern region of Nepal to India. This historical endeavour will begin in December, as stated by a senior Nepalese rail official.
This is an area of 69 km Nepal-India cross border railroad line from Nepali town Janakpur to Indian bordertown Jayanagar in Bihar. Previously there was a narrow gauge Janakpur-Jaynagar line, but that benefit stopped about five years back after redesign and overhauling works started.
The authorities from Nepal have updated the Indian counterpart that the section will be opened with four trips and will ply in 8 to 16 hour shifts. While the first train is going to be a passenger train service, they would like to run both passenger trains as well as freight trains on this section.
Nepal’s Department of Railway (DoR) intends to take rail carriages on a rent from India right away to begin the tasks.
Under the rent, Nepal will procure Indian crew members to work the administration as the Himalayan nation does not have needed HR to work the broad gauge railway service, as said by Prakash Bhakta Upadhyay, senior divisional designer DoR, to one of the reputed journals of Nepal.
According to the journal this project got another five cross-border railway lines between the two neighbours which are either under construction or on the planning phase.
