Covid-19 India evacuation LIVE updates : 177 Indian nationals stranded in Malaysia arrived in Tiruchi

As part of the government’s Vande Bharat Mission, world’s largest repatriation programme launched by India to rescue stranded citizens in various countries, as many as 177 passengers stuck in  Malaysia arrived in Tiruchi late on Saturday night on an Air India Express flight(IX 0681).

The flight landed at 10.20pm. According to a senior Indian embassy official, the tourists, migrant labourers and students were given a priority while planning the evacuation schedule for Malaysia. The passengers were screened on arrival and tested for novel coronavirus.

The passengers  those found with symptoms were taken to the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital, while others were quarantined in government institutions.

This first flight from Malaysia after travel restrictions were announced on March 17, due to Covid 19 pandemic, included 60 elderly citizens, 4 persons with medical conditions, 14 pregnant women, 8 children and 2 infants.
