Eight Indian Tourists Died In Room In Nepal’s Resort After Suspected Gas Leak

In a tragic incident, eight Indian tourists, including four minors, died on Tuesday after they fell unconscious due to a possible gas leak in their room at a resort in Nepal, as media reported. 

The deceased – two couples and four children were part of a 15-member group travelling from Kearala to Pokhara in Nepal, a popular mountainous tourist destination.

On their way back to home,they stayed at Everest Panorama Resort in Daman in Makawanpur district on Monday night and turned on a gas heater to keep themselves warm.They had booked a total of four rooms,though eight of them stayed in a room and remaining others in another room, the manager  of the resort said. Police suspect that they might have passed out due to lack of ventilation as all the windows and the door of the room were bolted from inside.

All of them airlifted to HAMS hospital where they were declared dead on arrival, Superintendent of Police Sushil Singh Rathaur said. 

The deceased were identified as Prabin Kumar Nair (39), Sharanya (34), Ranjit Kumar TB (39), Indu Ranjit (34), Shree Bhadra (9), Abinab Soraya (9), Abi Nair (7), and Baishnab Ranjit (2), media report said.

The Kerala Government assured all necessary assistance to bring back the mortal remains of eight Keralite tourists, to the state at the earliest possible time. The Chief Minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan expressed “deep grief” over the happening, a release from the Chief Minister’s Office said.

Foreign minister S Jaishankar has also expressed his grief  for the bereaved families. He said he is deeply distressed by sad news. Indian  embassy in Nepal has been closely following the situation and providing necessary assistance.
