Creating complete confusion to Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s earlier announcement that Indian Sikh pilgrims visiting the Kartarpur Sahib don’t require a passport, Pakistan Army spokesperson Major General Asif Ghafoor said that Indian Sikh pilgrims would require a passport to use Kartarpur Corridor, which will be inaugurated on Saturday.
Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on 1st November had announced that his government waived off two key requirements for Sikh pilgrims travelling for pilgrimage to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur from India. He tweeted saying Indians coming to Kartarpur do not need passports, they should have a valid document.
However,Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan on the Kartarpur Corridor has been proved false by the Pakistani Army. The army has denied the passport weiver saying passports are compulsory for Indian devotees.
On Wednesday India asked Pakistan to make it clear whether a passport would be required for Kartarpur Sahib. Though, Indian security agencies are cautious and instructions were issued to the devotees to take their passports with them.
