Incessant rain has washed away the only route to Manimahesh Lake, Himachal Pradesh, due to which the sacred Manimahesh Yatra has been suspended, informed a police official on Monday.
On this, Vimukt Ranjan – SP, Kangra stated, “A bridge near Bharngala Nala connecting Hudsar to Bharmour has been washed away following rains. This is the only route to Manimahesh. Efforts are being made to restore the bridge. Till then the yatra has been suspended.”
He also cautioned the pilgrims not to proceed further towards Chamba or Manimahesh, till the concerned authorities give any clearance for it.
Manimahesh Yatra is held at Mountain Kailash in the August-September time frame. Each year thousands of pilgrims gather at the lake to take a holy dip.
At 13,000 feet above the sea level, Manimahesh Lake is situated close to the Manimahesh Kailash Peak in the Pir Panjal Range of the Himalayas. In road, it is 26 km far from Bharmour in Budhil valley, a major pilgrims’ point in Himachal Pradesh. People believe its religious significance is next to that of the Lake Manasarovar in Tibet.
