Eyeing More Numbered Foreign Footfalls, Gujarat to Set Up A World-Class Zoo Near Statue of Unity

In an effort of shaping Gujarat a tourism hub, a world-class zoo will be added to its touristic attractions before the end of October next year, informed a senior official on Sunday. The zoo is planned to be set up near the Statue of Unity in Narmada distrct, which drew global attention recently, of being the world’s tallest statue.

The plan has got a nod from the Central Zoo Authority already.

This is not all, declared Rajiv Gupta, additional chief secretary and managing director of the Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited, but the latest pull factor will further be accompanied with river rafting facilities as well. 

He also said, the river rafting sport facility at Khalvani near the Statue of Unity, has also been inaugurated by the Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Saturday.

The zoo is planned to be developed across 1,300 acres over seven levels. To allure tourists it will house attractions like lions, tigers, leopards, giraffes, zebras, rhinos, bisons,12 types of deer and antelopes, and other exotic animals, said Mr. Gupta.

Since its inauguration, the Statue of Unity, alone has received 19 lakh  guests so far. This particularly, has raised up the state’s expection of crossing six crores tourist inflow in the current fiscal year. 

According to an official,  the western state which is “focusing on attracting foreign tourists” will soon be come out with a heritage tourism policy too.
