The picture of India’s most sought after backpacking center and honeymoon destination, Kullu-Manali is damaged nowadays with long irksome traffic jams. Thanks to its badly shaped roads and poor traffic management. Hours long bottlenecks have now become a common daily sight on the roads of Kullu-Manali along with other highways.
The peak tourist season’s rush, which happened to be a boon for the state’s tourism industry once, is now proved to be a total chaos. This is the reason why the tourism industry of Kullu and Manali suffers a low success rate currently.
The state administration keeps its eyes close to the issue, which further is disappointing the people, whoever are associated with the tourism industry.
They urged the state government to come up with prompt action against the crisis, not only providing proper transport facilities and expert traffic management but also developing new tourists attractions as well.
The availability of limited tourists destinations at the moment, makes the plight even worse. So new additions to it will aptly dilute the tourists flow to a single destination and there by solve the jam issue to a great extent.
Anup Thakur, the president of Hoteliers’ Association Kullu-Manali, said, “We requested the state government to promote new tourist destinations in Kullu district as it will divert tourists to different locations. It will automatically reduce traffic jams toward a single tourist destination. The restrictions imposed by National Green Tribunal Act to ply limited number of vehicles towards Rohtang for tourist activity is just encouraging corruption in this hilly state.”
The hilly area of Kullu and Manali is prone to landslide and the National Highways Authority of India’s unscientific cutting towards the hill side again contributes to it.
As said, roads are the lifeline of any tourism industry, so the state government should focus on developing better road infrastructure along with proper traffic management which is a big headache of the state’s tourism sector at present.
