Amid public demonstrations, flight operations were badly disrupted at the HongKong’s international airport on August 12. After thousands of pro-democracy protesters entered the terminal’s arrival halls,the airport authority, in a short notice on Monday, suspended all remaining flights for the day that led to cancellation of more than 200 flights,. All stranded passengers are seen lining up to catch their delayed flights, as airport authorities announced that it will implement reschedule of flights.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of India today issued an advisory to its citizens for travelling to Hong Kong saying “While operations are likely to resume on August 13, however, flights are likely to continue to be delayed and/or cancelled as it is likely that more protests may be held.”
For any further assistance it also shared the helpline number too. “Consulate can be reached at our helpline at 852 90771083,” the statement added.
“Indian passengers are advised to be in touch with their respective airlines for information about expected timelines for the recommencement of their flights and also to find alternative travel routes to avoid inconvenience, till normalcy is restored in airport operations”, the MEA added.
Airlines IndiGo and SpiceJet have already issued advisory for people travelling to Hong Kong.Hong Kong is the world’s busiest air cargo port and the 8th busiest by passenger traffic, as said by the Airports Council International (ACI), a global association.
