As per report, as many as 400 people from the Kranti Nagar areas are were evacuated on Sunday morning following the rise in Mithi River level. They were all shifted to Bazarwad Municipal school in Kurla,
The Pune Municipal Corporation is also shifted over 500 families to safer locations as a flood-like situation arises in the city.
Mumbaikars continue to reel under heavy rains across the city, with many areas waterlogged. Road, rail traffic and flight operations also hit severely because of incessant rainfall in Mumbai.
IMD has has warned of more “heavy to very heavy falls” accompanied with gusty winds in Mumbai on Sunday and issued a red alert in the city and predicted heavy rainfall accompanied with gusty winds during the day, a day after incessant rains lashed the metropolis and its surrounding areas. The IMD further issued a warning of high tide during the afternoon.The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation issued an advisory asking Mumbai residents to not venture into the sea or in water-logged areas in view of the IMD warning.
“The IMD gave a warning of extremely heavy rainfall for the next 24 hours from 1 pm on August 3. Citizens should avoid venturing around sea also at water-logged areas,” the civic body said in a statement. Several trains were short-terminated, diverted, rescheduled or cancelled. Amid heavy rainfall Central railway said that train traffic on the main line and harbour line of the Central Railway suburban section has been suspended in Mumbai as a precautionary measure to avoid hardship to commuters later.
The Western Railway suburban and long-distance section was affected due to the continuous rains overnight.
Trains are being run at very cautious speed over bridges keeping safety of trains and passengers in mind as water flowing above danger level. Railway personnel are at the bridges to ensure smooth and safe passage of trains.
