Promoting Maritime Tourism : India’s Coastal Sector To See A New Dawn : Ministers

If addressed properly, tourism can be found to be an economic goldmine for any developing country. Following this view point India is now in a mood of promoting every possible areas of its own. In a recent meeting between Minister of State for Shipping and Chemicals & Fertilizers, Mansukh Mandaviya and Minister of State for Tourism & Culture, Prahlad Singh Patel, the need of promoting maritime tourism in India has been emphasized.On Wednesday, mooting the potential of the country’s maritime tourism, the ministers in their discussion stressed on the need of developing important tourist destinations in the coastal areas of the country.

The ministers have come up with the decision of forming a committee of senior officials to explore the avenues for coastal tourism in the country and work out ways to promote the same. In the process, possibilities and opportunities in the fields of Coastal Tourism, Cruise Tourism, Sea Sports, Light House Viewing Gallery will be explored. It was proposed that every coastal area can create a calendar of fun events for tourist like beach volleyball, sand art, food festivals, dances of the fishing community, making of crafts with the shells of marine or freshwater bivalves and many more.

Again the project will open a door to coastal communities of the states where they will find many new and diverse job opportunities and in next few years, coastal and maritime tourism will be a major source for growth and job creation in the coastal areas of India.

However all such plans can only be carried out and completed within the given time limit, when the two ministers will work with a well coordination and synergy with one another.

Taking the fact into consideration, the Shipping Ministry is promoting tourism in coastal states under the Sagarmala Programme, which envisages unlocking the potential of waterways and the coastline to minimize infrastructural investments required to meet these targets. This is being done in convergence with the Ministry of Tourism and Tourism Development Departments of maritime state governments.
